About Foundation for Cultural and Media Studies FCMS in Suvidha, N R Pura Road, Vidyanagara, Shimoga

Foundation for Cultural and Media Studies (FCMS) has been founded by a group of educationists, media practitioners and social scientists engaged in and support activities and research in rural development in Karnataka. FCMS, in its initial stages of work, has concentrated in the socio-economically backward but culturally vibrant Malnad region of Karnataka, in the heart of the Western Ghats, South India.

FCMS is essentially an application-oriented cultural enterprise, centred on community activities of the mass society. Equity in terms of opportunities, Quality of Living, Unity among the social strata, social Accountability, Empowerment at the grass-roots level, Relevance of developmental efforts and democratic Access to popular power are the keywords in the performance of FCMS. Putting the first letters of these critical words, the Foundation aims at EQUAL ERA – a dream of the
forefathers of this great nation and civilization. Objectives of FCMS, succinctly, are:

(i) to help the people of the region help themselves;
(ii) to enrich the lives of the masses with booster of cultural activities and thoughts;
(iii) to engage in pragmatic research on society and media-related issues;
(iv) develop a community media system to voice the concerns, aspiration and resources of the region.
