Instituted in the year of 1938 with a lofty mission of illuminating the socio-cultural firmament of geographically alienated Majuli, ‘Majuli Milan Sangha, Kamalabari’ (মাজুলী মিলন সংঘ, কমলাবাৰী) now rises atop a priceless heritage of more than eighty years of perpetual contribution to the growth and maneuver in the sphere of art and culture in the island. Based on the hearth of the island, Kamalabari, this institution is very special to us for it both fortifies and envisions the legacy which enriches our culture even as it accommodates the traffic which flows in and disseminates the creed of our distinct entity and identity. Since the autumn of 1957 it fosters the staging of Raas festival (“শ্রী শ্রী কৃষ্ণৰ ৰাসলীলা”) with a wholly spiritual devotion weaving a spell over the audience at a national and of late an international panorama, concurrently turning a blind eye to the extremely alluring pulls of the twenty-first century. At the same time it ensures to keep its frames intact as laid by its founders themselves maintaining a greater cosmopolitan attitude to withstand the scratches of ‘capitalist intrusion’, and vows to leave its indelible imprints on the sands of time.
