The Pandit Wada is a 300 year old residential structure built during the Peshwa rule. It is located at the heart of Wai which is one of the most sacred cities of India. The wada has several rooms and is an exquisite architectural piece of its times. It is a great place to visit for the students of architecture and history of Maharashtra, particularly during the Peshwa period.
Wai has long been a cultural center. There are more than 100 architecturally significant temples in the town which earned it the epithet of "Dakshin Kashi". The Dholya Ganpati is the most famous of them all. Wai is also known for its ghats on the banks of the Krishna River.
Wai is just 14 kms from Panchgani and 33 kms from Mahabaleshwar which are very prominnent hill stations of Maharashtra. You can enjoy your stay at Pandit Wada at a very affordable price and yet comfortably visit these hill stations in an hour's time.
Pandavas established the site of the future city of Wai in the 1700s. The 17th century warlord Afzal Khan (general), representing Ali Adil Shah II of the Bijapur Sultanate, is said to have made his first halt here on his way to the fort of Marahtha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This historical spot is just a 3-minute walk from the Pandit Wada. A cache of 105 guns, swords and other weapons was found in Wai around 2005.
