Varanasi has been the capital city of oriental learning since the time immemorial and produced great poets, writers, musicians and scholars. Sarnath very close to Varanasi is the place where Lord Buddha started his preaching in sixth century BC. City has very old temples namely of Lord Shiva (Kashi Vishwanath Temple), Sankat Mochan, Durga temple and Lord Ganesha temple and several thousand devotees from other parts of the country as well as from abroad visit Varanasi every day.
