TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then it has become much bigger.
The TED conferences bring together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk in 18 minutes on a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture. Past presenters include Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Gordon Brown, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates, Larry Page.

In the spirit of TED's mission, "Ideas Worth Spreading" ,TEDx program gives communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. TEDx events are organized independently by organization based on some set of rules. At TEDx events, a screening of TEDTalks videos or a
combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos, sparks deep conversation and connections.
