About GEMS Foundation in Kowdiar, Trivandrum

GEMS is having its 36th year of glorious existence in 2013. During these years GEMS and GEMS Foundation have rendered commendable service to thousands of under privileged people both in Tamil Nadu and Kerala State. Their multifaceted community development projects include Rehabilitation Work of Pavement and Slum Dwellers, Charitable Hospital, Free Medical Camps, Orphanage, Free Land Distribution Scheme, Family Counseling Centre, Vocational Training Program for Unemployed Women, Community Housing Scheme for Poor, Charitable Residential School etc. Through these tireless and multi-farious activities ranging from community development to healthcare and to education GEMS is trying to make its dreams come true.

Chairman's Message

Dear friend,


India's population has crossed 1000 million. Of these 300 million live below poverty line and 500 million are landless and homeless. The pitiable conditions under which these people eke out their existence are shocking to every right thinking citizen. deprived of the basic needs of survival, such as safe drinking water, nutritious food, medical facilities, a roof to live under and regular employment. Governmental and Non-governmental agencies are making steady efforts to lift these downtrodden people out of their misery, but the progress is far from satisfactory.


Moved by the tragic plight of the landless millions, GEMS embarked upon an ambitious project for distributing land to 1000 landless families scattered in various parts of Kerala. We have already distributed land to 500 families, whose, photographs are included in this site. It is the woman and the girl child that are the helpless victims of social inequalities and social evils. GEMS has established two homes at Parassala, near Trivandrum and another at Nedumangad, for deserted women, widows and orphaned girls. In the state of Tamil Nadu, GEMS Foundation, is engaged in Community Development Projects and rehabilitation of 2600 erstwhile pavement and slum dweller families in Chennai city.


Our ultimate aim will be realized when these homeless many are helped to lead happy and healthy lives. The beneficial effects will be felt in the form of a clean and healthy environment. Let me take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to all individuals and agencies that have supported us in our work. We look forward to their continued association in the future, in our endeavor to uplift the underprivileged sections of our society.


Our duty as world citizens is to help our fellow human beings as far as we individuality can, rather than thrusting the entire responsibility upon the shoulder of the government of the time.
