About Southern Railway Mazdoor Union Tirunelveli in Tirunelveli Railway junction, Tirunelveli

If the beginning of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union itself was very tough the growth path was also was much tougher than this. After a decade of struggle the SRMU got the recognition during the year 1938. During the year 1947 SRMU gave strike notice which made the All India Railway Federation to cancel the registration. In the year 1961 Mr. Umpathy was elected as the General Secretary and Mr. Angasamy was elected as the President of the SRMU. The sincere efforts of the SRMU and its aggressive policies towards working with the welfare of the employees made AIRF to give back the recognition. The Hind Mazdoor Sabha also recongised the SRMU and gave affiliation. The year 1966 was a golden year for SRMU has the Railway Organisation also gave recognition. Shri M Namachivayam took over as the General Secretary and Mr. G Ramachandran took over as the President in the year 1969.
