About Arcot Lutheran Church School Project in , Thirukovilur

The Arcot Lutheran Church (ALC) was established in the year 1864 by the Danish Missionary Society, now known as Dan Mission, with the great vision of forming a castles society or a community without caste. It aims to serve socially and economically marginalized Dalit and tribal community live in Northern Districts of Tamilnadu (Cuddalore, Villupuram, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri and Chennai) and in Pondicherry, which is a union territory and in Bangalore in Karnataka state.

Arcot Lutheran Church is involved in Preaching, Teaching, healing ministries and very much committed in providing quality education to the marginalized community. Hence ALC School Project (ALC SP) was established in 1983 with the primary objective of improving human resource capacity and providing infrastructural facilities to the schools and educational institutions. ALC SP worked in service delivery mode till 2004 and switched over to right based approach with a special focus to women and children rights.

Where we work:

We work in 105 villages in the Northern districts of Tamil nadu - Cuddalore, Villupuram, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri and in Chennai, which is a union territory. ALC from its inception for nearly 150 years committed to the service of the marginalised dalits and tribal in Northern Tamil Nadu. It is well established with infrastructural facilities, landed assets, human resources and the strong partnership with well reputed partners like Danmission, LEGO Foundation, LPGM and Vision Global Empowermnet. More than 121 schools run by ALC with the aid given by the Government of Tamil Nadu are the valuable resources which make ALC different from other NGOs and government organisations.

ALC SP is working in close cooperation with relevant local authorities, organisations, institutions, local panchayats, schools, government departments etc. NGOs such as SAFG, KKID, UNICEF, CCRD, Community Development Foundation, RUHSA, ISI, HRF provides legal and technical support to ALCSP and there are several local level NGOs contributes to the cause along with ALCSP. The significant role of ALCSP shifted from service delivery to rights based approach and implement the programme in order to provide quality education and rights based education.
