About Shivmandir Megacity in Atharokhai Main Road, Siliguri

Shivmandir basically is an ideally located temple and a pilgrimage site. It is said that years ago the people miraculously found a stone manifesting Shiva Ling. Shiv Ling is the main effigy of worship and there is a belief that a visit with true devotion to this temple fulfills one's wishes. It is meant an auspicious religious site particularly for son or daughter. The enthusiasm with the sight and the faith with which the pilgrims visit this place makes this a popular religious site. Shivmandir is a symbol of peace, harmony and good health. Once in a year on the occasion of Hindus Shiv Ratri, local people do organize a festival which falls in December – January. A foot suspension bridge takes the devotees to its attractive location. People from all over the state visit this holy place of eminence. According to popular belief, whosoever worships here will earn virtues of two life times.

It said that the entire land of Shivmandir was divided into two parts. The North and the South side of NH31 Highway. The Land owner of North side was Late Khaoria Singha and Nour Singha. The well known North Bengal University was situated in this part of land.

South part was owned by Late Kali Prasad Singha. He established the Shivmandir using that miraculous Shiv Ling. For this reason the entire area was named as Shivmandir.

The first elected Pradhan of Shivmandir was Late Rabi Sarkar. After that it was upgraded into Atharokhai Gram Panchayat.

Then Late Sri Debesh Chakraborti elected as pradhan since 1978-1983. The Sub-Pradhan (Upo-Pradhan) post has been taken by Sri Priyonath Roy (1978-1983).
