About GVK EMRI Emergency Medicine Learning Center Meghalaya in 1st floor Neurological Building, MIMHANS, Lawmali, Shillong

GVK EMRI is “not-for-profit” organization registered under AP Societies Registration Act 2001. GVK EMRI is nodal agency appointed by 14 State Govts and 2 UTS to provide Emergency Services.

GVK EMRI 108 Services was launched on the 2nd of February 2009 in Meghalaya with a fleet of 15 ambulances. Gradually this was expanded to a fleet of 42 ambulances


GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute is not just an emergency medical service provider but an institute with a proven capability to impart emergency management skills to the entire spectrum of health care providers from first responders to the highly skilled physicians. Its training activities are just not limited to Emergency medical technicians but to first responders, nursing staff, interns, junior doctors and specialists. The institutes which benefited from training programs of Emergency Medicine Learning Centre of GVKEMRI include both governmental and nongovernmental institutes and organizations. The training programs conducted by Emergency Medicine Learning Centre include: First Responder training programs; Foundation training program for the Emergency Medical Technicians who work on the ambulance; Skill development Program for interns from both medical and dental streams; Essential Emergency care skills for nursing staff and junior doctors; Accident and Emergency Care Orientation training program for the doctors and nursing staff working in hospitals.
The domain or the core content of training programs is not just limited to resuscitation but gives broad out look at the approach to the patients who have a medical condition that requires emergency medical care. Mass casualty management which is part of disaster management is also a component of training programs and a specially designed disaster management program is offered to physicians from the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Orientation training program in accident and emergency care is a specially designed training program for the physicians and nursing staff of the Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad hospitals. These are the staff working in CHC’s, Area Hospitals (first referral units) and District hospitals. Stanford Emergency Medicine International from Stanford school of Medicine California, USA, has shared its expertise in the design of training program for district and sub district hospital physicians. GVK EMRI is recognized as an International Training Center to offer American Heart Association (BLS, ACLS and PALS) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS-Basic and Advanced) certification courses.
GVK EMRI’s experience is not just limited to training but has the expertise to develop, set up and run emergency stabilization rooms. Apart from working for establishing Emergency Care Centers in Tamil Nadu, it has partnered with the government of Goa to develop the casualty rooms of certain selected CHC’s in to fully fledged emergency stabilization rooms and are being staffed with our trained advanced paramedic staffs who have attended the two year advanced paramedic program designed by the Stanford Emergency medicine international for GVKEMRI.


The GVK EMRI Emergency Medicine Learning Center, Meghalaya was inaugurated on the 6th of April 2011 in the august presence of the Commissioner & Secretary , Department of Health & FW, Government of Meghalaya and the Director, North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences. it is a branch of the EMLC at Hyderabad which is a recognised International Training Center

It is providing training to Doctors, nurses, Paramedics and also the interested members of the public.
the training offered are AHA certified training like First Responder training (general public), Basic Life Support(BLS to doctors nurses and paramedics), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS to doctors), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS to doctors nurses and paramedics), American Academy of Family Physician trainings like Basic Life Support in Obstetrics(BLSO to doctors nurses and paramedics) and Advance Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO for Doctors). We have also collaborated with Stanford Emergency Medicine International to train Doctors in Emergency Medicine known as the District Hospital Physician Training(DHPT)
