About Jungle Music School in , Shanti Niketan

The previously nomadic tribe Santhal tribe of Bengal live in a village near Santiniketan. The tribal children had access to basic education, but were reluctant to attend school.
Sanjay Khyapa one of Kolkata’s most famous rock stars is bringing his talent out of the city and into the forest to give guitar lessons to Santhal children in hopes of raising them out of poverty and encouraging them back into the classroom through musical education. He is a celebrated guitarist and pioneer of Baul fusion music in India. He has retired from a rock band and pursuing his project BrahmaKhyapa with Malabika Brahma and they have dedicated their time in educating some of most marginalized and disadvantaged children in the unique setting of their forest home. The story started as he coaxed the kids to attend schools which they otherwise found very boring.
This positive reinforcement worked well for them and now children are motivated to attend school.
Soon other youths and aspiring musicians from the surrounding villages started dropping in.
Jungle Music School continues with the aim of educating the youth musically as well as spiritually.
