Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education and Training (MANET) is a part of the glorious and reputable Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research (MAEER), MIT group of Institutions, Pune, India.
MANET was founded in 2001 with the aim of establishing a World Class maritime Training institution to provide top notch training to aspiring students in quest of career on sea. Situated at a picturesque location in LoniKalbhor on the banks of the MulaMuthaRiver, MANET boasts of having excellent infrastructure that aids learning and training of cadets in the best possible way. Currently, MANET offers two major courses, the four year B.Tech (Marine) engineering course and the three year B.Sc Nautical science course. These extremely popular courses are recognized and approved by the Directorate General Of shipping, Government of India and recognized by YashwantraoChavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik.
MANET provides excellent training and encompasses all aspects of maritime training which include Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic engineering along with computer science, navigation, communication, seamanship and basic sciences.
The academy offers perfect learning environment at all levels. The tranquil and peaceful surroundings enable the cadets to learn with full concentration and zeal. Well-equipped laboratories, workshops, well maintained classrooms, luxuriously furnished hostels, outdoor and indoor sports facilities, Olympic size swimming pool and other facilities, facilitate hassle free learning and stimulate all around development of cadets. A boat club is also available for the cadets to gain proficiency in boating, a crucial need in this profession. MANET prides itself on having a real ship-in campus ‘Training Ship Viswanath’. The cadets are familiarized with the actual workings of the ships and are given hands on training keeping up with the latest happenings taking place in the shipping industry. MITSUI OSK lines Maritime (India) Ltd. (MOLMI) has opened a training center at MANET and commissioned 360 degree bridge simulator that adds the learning features if seafarers activities. The cadets feel acquainted with the ship right from the very beginning leading to increased yearning for this unique profession.
The teaching – learning environment of MANET is enriched due to the efforts of the highly trained and qualified faculty members. The faculty members at MANET encourage self – learning, personality development of cadets and provide guidance to cadets at many different levels. The teaching - learning environment in MANET builds confidence in cadets to question, discover and learn in many different ways. MANET hosts National level seminar on shipping every year to bridge the gap between real fast paced developments of the shipping industry and classroom learning. The knowledge is never redundant and cadets are able to interact with professionals of the field to arm themselves for their future professional life. The well-stocked library also bears testimony to the fact that MANET strives to not just teach, but also instill a sense of independence in cadets to learn and glean facts from many different sources.
MANET also houses a placement cell that assists and supports the cadets to get jobs in prominent shipping companies of the world. Cadets from MANET have already carved out a niche for themselves and are working with great success in many national and international shipping companies. Cadets are groomed right from the first year to increase their opportunities of getting placed. Several workshops on personality development and etiquette management are conducted to hone the skills of cadets which aid them to not only get a job, but also hold on to the job once they start working.
The cadets are encouraged to hone their talent through several extra-curricular activities that are held all around the year. A sense of secularism, love for the country and pride in its culture is also awakened through celebration of festivals in the campus. Ever year MANET hosts National Maritime Sports meet that encourages the participation of athletes and sportsperson from many different maritime training institutions. Budding sportspersons and athletes from MANET are able to pursue their passion as they get full support from the sports department of the academy.
MANET also promotes gender equality by encouraging girls to succeed in academics. Girls from all around the country seek admission in MANET to pursue their lifelong dream of working in Merchant Navy. Many girls from MANET are working in merchant navy and have earned the position of being role models for others aspiring to be in this field.
Life in MANET is one of discipline and vigor. Cadets are trained to be self-disciplined which is an essential aspect of working on the ship. The academy lays emphasis on physical fitness and mental finesse. Cadets are able to unwind after a long day by hitting the gym or by indulging in sports and hearty exercise. The well maintained Mess in campus serves scrumptious meals and ensures that the cadets remain fit and healthy.
MANET has achieved laurels in the world of maritime training. MANET has been assessed and graded “A1” ( outstanding) in comprehensive inspection program of DGS, with credit points of 91.91% overall by Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) for the two pre-sea courses conducted at MANET namely 4 years B.Tech ( Marine Engineering) and 3 years B.Sc. ( Nautical science) .It is also recognized as a training institute by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), Govt. of Japan, in which students graduating from our institution in engineering as well as nautical science courses will be able to sail on Japanese flag vessels.
MANET is the only maritime institute to be included and placed at the 95th overall position among the first 100 engineering institutes in India. In a recent survey conducted by “The Times of India” group.
