About The Original Bandstand in Garcia de Orta (Panjim Municipal Garden), Panaji

In today's day and age when we are seeing a rapid development in technology our social interactions are also becoming virtual and very often exist only in the digital space.

The importance of real life social interaction cannot be over stated. Besides helping in development of the individual it also is key to the development of the city. Panaji is fortunate to have large open community spaces in the city but many of these are under-utilised.

In fact the central garden of the city "Jardim Garcia de Orta" (Panjim Municipal Garden) was dilapidated up until 2000 and the revival of the band stand was vital in inspiring the redevelopment of the space.

With an objective to make Panaji one of the best cities to live in Panaji First in association with the City Corporation of Panaji (CCP) have supported the Bandstand Revival project under the Banner "The Original Bandstand" at Jardim Garcia de Orta and so as to bring to life the age old ‘Bandstand’ to promote young amateur musicians as well as accomplished musicians from around the state to perform various genres of music, including Goan, folk, classical, fusion art forms.

The intent of organising such events is to encourage the citizens to make use of the garden / open spaces around the City and to further create a sense of fellowship at the same time to conserve and advocate sustainable measures to keep these areas as pristine for future generations.

Panaji First will prioritize the city issues and work with government and associated bodies on the projects that are jointly identified and agreed upon. The priority will gravitate towards garbage management, pedestrian walkways, congestion of the traffic, entertainment, inclusion of reading habits, promotion of local culture, etc.

The event will be launched this week on Sunday the 28th September starting at 1800 Hrs. The Bandstand will feature professional and amateur musicians and other performing artists.
