About NYC.PIE in 28 A Defence Colony main market, New Delhi

Started by Raj Rao, a veteran in hospitality whose career spans over 30 years in the hotel & restaurant industry. “I am passionate about Food & Beverage and started my career with Doubletree Hotels and have worked for Four Seasons Hotels, Ritz Carlton Hotels and Oberoi Hotels in various F&B roles”.

In 2002, he was shortlisted to 1 of 8 candidates for the position of Food & Beverage Director for The White House in Washington D.C.

Mid 2002, he came back to India where he headed the Food & Beverage division at The Oberoi, New Delhi and was instrumental in opening the landmark restaurant Threesixty. Post that, there was no stopping him. In 2007 he moved to Goa and became an entrepreneur where he conceptualized & co-owned the multi-award winning Republic Of Noodles. In 2012, he conceptualized & co-owned Fat Lulu’s in Gurgaon.

He now plans to take NYC.PIE™ to a whole new level of pizza experience.

In New York City, many people refer to pizzas as ‘pies', a phrase coined by old school pizza restaurateurs who migrated to America from various regions of Italy in the 1920’s. It is traditionally hand-tossed and light on sauce. The most notable difference between New York style and other American pizzas is its thin hand kneaded crust. The flavor of the crust has sometimes been attributed to the minerals present in the New York City water used to make the dough.

Outside of the Northeast, many pizzas are described as "New York style" - including some by major pizza chains. Authenticity is highly variable and often spurious; as the term is often misapplied to ‘generic American’ pizza - examples would be a crust that is too thick (or too cracker-like) or the use of mixed multi-cheese blends (especially containing cheddar.)
The first pizzeria in the United States was opened in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi, at Lombardi's in Little Italy, Manhattan. Next time you are in the City, have a pizza here. You won’t regret it.
