About North Bengal University Chhatra Parishad in , Matigara

n 1971, NSUI came into formal existence, under the
inspiration and guidance of the Late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi , who correctly perceived the need for a mass based students' organization that could be the genuine representative of each & every student of this country. She dreamt of an organization that would struggle and strive for the needs and aspirations of all the students of the country, irrespective of their region, religion, social background or caste.
Prior to the existence of NSUI, two students' organizations-the Kerala Students' Union (KSU) and the Chaatra Parishad (CP)-functioned under the larger umbrella of the Indian National Congress. Both these organizations were especially effective in combating the Communist Left forces that otherwise dominated in both these states. However, with the growth of the communal and fascist forces, the students' Movement in the country saw a sharp polarization during the 1960's. It was at this point of time that Smt. Indira Gandhi had the foresight and the vision that ultimately led to the formation of NSUI was formed by merging CP and KSU, both these state units continue to function under their original names till date.
The Ideals on which NSUI was founded are the five pillars of Democracy, Secularism, Socialism, Unity in Diversity and good Governance. The motto to the organization is Advancement of Learning, Patriotism and Corporate Life. The flag of NSUI has a clear imprint of both the KSU and the Chaarta Parisad-with the tricolor portion of the CP being joined with the blue flag of the KSU. NSUI, the right from its inception has been and will continue to remain committed to maintaining the secular and democratic ethos of our country and towards upholding the legacy of the freedom movement and its leaders Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Sardar Patel, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and others. Even after Independence, we have continued to be inspired by the vision of a modern and resurgent India
