About Shree Gokarnanatha kshetra in Kudroli, Mangalore

History:- Shree Gokarnanatha temple was being situated by Bramha Shree Narayana guru Dev swamiji in the year 1912. The Billawa Community and the minorities were being traditionally suppressed by upper caste treating them as 'untouchables'.Social inequality was the major problem which prevented them from entering the temple, attend any functions etc. At the scenario, a prominent Billawa leader from Mangalore, Sahukar Koragappa decided to visit the Guru along with the leaders of the community in 1908. The decision taken by the communities after meeting Sahukar Koragappa was a huming tune for the next generation as they decided to meet Bramha Shree Narayana Guru. They met Guru dev and visualised the problem faced by them in the society. He (Guru Dev) filed faith and spirit in the hearts of billawa community and other minorities regarding the issue. He further insisted them ‘Build a temple and praise a god with whole devotion,I whole heartedly will handover you Gokarnanatheshwara (Linga)’. He was a foundation for several temples of different communities and travelled throughout the nation meeting several social reformers preeching a secular notion ‘ONE CASTE ONE RELIGION ONE GOD’.In the year 1908, he came to mangalore and insisted the community that Kudroli is a historical landmark to build the kshetra. Guru dev once again came back to mangalore in 1909 and laid the foundation stone with marking the appropriate place for fetching sweet water which is now called as ‘theertha bhavi’. In 1912 on the precious day of Maha Shivaratri Guru dev himself installed the Panchayathana murthi ( ). Sahukar Koragappa then donated the land needed for the Kshethra and was chosen as its first administrative Head.
