Bihar has been a renowned seat of learning since time immemorial. This has been the land of enlightenment for the founders of some of the world's major religions such as Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. At the same time, the state has the history of giving some of the finest and largest universities to the world-Nalanda and Vikramshila university. Great Mathematician Aryabhatta, first president of India Rajendra Prasad, great scholar and leader Maulana Majharul Haq and leader like Jaya Prakash Narayan all were from Bihar. Mahatma Gandhi who taught peace and non violence to the world started his experiment with the non violence movement from a place none other than Bihar.
Madhepura, located in the middle of Koshi region of Bihar is a district headquarter. The history of Madhepura and its glorious past truly reflects the culture and traditions of Bihar. This region has produced scholars like Lakshmi Nath Gosai, Maharshi Mehi, Baba Vishu Raut and Baba Karu Khirhari. However, due to lack of proper education institutes, this region had been lagging behind in education. It was only because of tremendous efforts by visionary leaders like Babu Kirti Narayan Mandal, Babu Shivnandan Prasad Mandal and Bhupendra Narayan Mandal that the education scenario started improving in this region.
Thakur Prasad College (T.P. College ) was established on 28 July 1953 after a series of meetings and consultations with different stakeholders in the region.The college is named after Babu Thakur Prasad Mandal who was father of Babu Kirti Narayan Mandal.Babu Thakur Prasad not only donated his land and money for the college but also along with Kirti Babu put great efforts in bringing the college in the present shape.
T.P.College made very quick impact in the region right from the beginning, students started getting the benefits of education very soon after its establishment. In the glorious history of the college, great professors who once taught in T.P college went ahead and became vice chancellors of many universities across Bihar and some of them also sowed the seeds of many other colleges in the state. This proved out to be a significant attempt in fulfilling the vision of Babu Shivnandan Mandal who often said -"Not a single soul should remain uneducated on earth”.
Today T.P.College stands tall in the region in accomplishing its mission of providing good quality education to students from different background and economic conditions. The place is equipped with all modern amenities and is committed to providing high quality educations to everyone. The institute has been the torch bearer of higher education in true sense.
