STROKE
Stroke happens when blood flow to a part of the brain stops, A stroke is sometimes called a “Brain Attack”.
Causes :
If blood flow to the brain is stopped for longer than a few seconds, the brain cells can die, causing perment damage, there are two major types of stroke Ischemic Stroke & Hemorrhagic Stroke.
An Ischemic Stroke occurs when a blood vessel that supplies blood to the brain is blocked by a blood clot, fat, cholesterol, and other substances collect on the artery walls,forming a sticky substance called plaque.The cholesterol plaque may tear,and the blood platelets might stick forming the blood clot, blocking the blood supply to the brain.
An Hemorrhagic Stroke occurs when a blood vessel in part of the brain becomes weak and burts open causing blood to leak into the brain, some people have defects in the blood vessels of the brain that make this more likely.
Stroke Risk Factors :
High blood pressure is the number one risk factor for strokes, the other major risk factor are:-
- Diabetes
- Family History Of Strokes
- High Cholesterol
- Increasing age, especially after age 55years
The chance of stroke is higher in people who live an unhealthy life style by:-
- Being Over Weight Or Obese
- Drinking Heavily
- Eating too Much Fat Or Salt
- Smoking
- Taking Cocaine & Other Illegal Drugs
Symptoms Of Strokes:-
The symptoms of stroke depend on what part of the brain is damaged.Symptoms usually develop suddenly and without warning. Or, Symptoms may occur on & off for the first day or two. A headache may occur, if the stroke is caused by bleending in the brain.
