About Gotroheen (Dumdum) in 11/1, Hare Krishna Sett Lane, Kolkata

Gothroheen was formed in 2004 by some enthusiastic youths. Till date we performed 19 plays including open-air & social awareness plays.
Inspired by the visionary, Badal Sircar, we are still trying to drench out any unnecessary Fat – exaggeration in Expenses, Set-design, Make up. It’s a continuous process, we are still trying to shed things off. We have performed on the Streets, in front of Factories, on the epicentre of Protests-like Nonadanga, considered to be outsiders we even performed outside the so called theatre arena.
Then we tried our hands with the so called Elite genre, Proscenium Theatre. We wanted to test the Taste, because, to us, Form was/is/will be insignificant. We rather want to explore the Content.
We believe that if we can deliver Quality, Form will gradually be non-existent. The production cost of two of our most popular and most performed proscenium plays, Neelkantha Desh and, more importantly, Pragoitihasik, deifies cost-rich culture. Mere Stagecraft, minimalistic Sound, next to bare Make up is our forte. And the response that we got over the years has made us adamant, we will go this way only.
