About Panchanan Bayam Samity in 16A, Mondal Street, Kolkata


Panchanan Bayam Samity is one of the oldest Wrestling Club in India. It was established in 1881 by Nihar Chandra Saha, Social Reformer. Panchanan Bayam Samity and the Saha family of Kolkata are in separable.
Both have contributed together in the development of wrestling in India in a magnanimous way.

Nandalal Saha son of Nihar Chandra Saha took over the responsibility after Nihar Chandra Saha. Nandalal was a famous wrestler of his time and fought a lot of professional wrestlers. Nandalal was also elected as the President of Panchanan Bayam Samity. During his time he coached and mentored a lot of talents.

After Nandalal, his younger son Sudhir Chandra Saha took over the responsibility of the club and the state association. Sudhir was elected as the Honourable General Secretary of West Bengal Wrestling Association. Sudhir as a wrestler competed in various state and national level championships winning the state championship several times and getting the silver medal in the nationals. Sudhir’s elder brothers Subol and Sushil were reputed wrestlers too. Sushil went onto become National Champion and coached several wrestlers during his time. The club and the West Bengal Wrestling Association reached its peak under the able leadership, guidance and supervision of Sudhir Chandra Saha. Also during this time Sudhir with the help of Surjeet Singh Majithia, Honorary Member, F.I.L.A, President, W.F.I, managed to put India on the Global map of Wrestling.

After the death of Sudhir Chandra Saha, his third son Asit Kumar Saha, took over the responsibility of the club and the West Bengal Wrestling Association and has managed to progress towards bigger and better things.

Asit Kumar Saha, Hony.General.Secretary, West Bengal Wrestling Association & Vice President Wrestling Federation Of India. He has been engaged with the sport of wrestling since his childhood. Five generations in his family has been involved with this ancient art. He has represented his state and he is a Judge/Referee as well.
