About Ubtreib in , Kannur

The Universal Braille and Talking Book Library, Research and Educational Institute for the Blind (UBTREIB) was established in 1991 and had humble beginning in a small rented room in Kannur District, Kerala.

The first Executive Committee consisted of:
Mr. PS Narayanan (Sulia) – President; Mrs. Ranjini Pokyarathe (Kannur) - Vice-President;
Mr. CV Narayanan (Kannur) – Secretary; Mrs. MP Thankamani (Kannur) - Joint Secretary;
Mr. Balakrishna Menon (Kannur) - Committee Member; Capt. PVC Kutty (Kannur) - Committee Member; Mr. KP Rameshan (Kannur) - Committee Member; Mr. TG Nair (Kannur) - Treasurer

It was in the year 2003 that the organization was able to move into its current premises, thanks to the land provided free of cost by the Government of Kerala. The Ground Floor was donated by Mother Krishnabai Rural Memorial Trust Kanhangad (Anandashram).

Later in the year 2005, the First Floor was built and donated as a Centennial Project of the Cannanore Central Rotary Club.
