The Department of Commerce was started in the year 1967 as a part of Andhra University Postgraduate Centre with 40 students in M.Com Course. In response to the Demand of the pubic and taking into account the socioeconomic needs of the region, the Department has increased the intake to hundred from the academic year 1975-76 later , when the PG Centre was started at Ongole the intake was reduced to 40. The course structure and syllabi of the M.Com Programme was designed taking the academic strengths of the institutions that took the lead in initiating M.Com in the country. In its existence of two and half decades, it has turned out about 2000 Post –graduates in Commerce who are very well placed in the reputed organizations in India and also abroad.
In response to the demand of the public and taking into account the socio economic needs of the region, the department has started a two-year MBA program in the year 1978-79. The course structure and syllabi of the Management Program was designed taking the academic strength of the premier institutions that took the lead in initiating MBA program in the country. The government, semi-government bodies, public and private sector organizations have about 1000 MBAs who are very well placed in the prestigious organizations in India and also abroad.
MISSIONS AND OBJECTIVES:
The main mission of the program is to prepare young men and women acquire skill and expertise for leading the business world and developing quality management people to serve the needs of the industry. More specifically, the program aims at the following:

Providing educational facilities for training young men and women for careers in management. Developing knowledge through original research, both applied and conceptual, and disseminating such knowledge. Familiarize the students with a broad range of problems and practice, in the areas of management. Improving the analytical abilities of the students by explaining relevance of concepts and techniques necessary to analyze and resolve managerial problems. To develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationship with commerce, trade, industry, government and non-profit institutions, to offer short term programs and executive development programs to serve the needs of official business houses.
