Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Padma Nidhi Dhar of CPI(M) defeated Brajamohan Majumdar of Trinamool Congress in 2001, Bhabani Prasad Bhattacharya of Congress in 1996, and Sachin Ray of Congress in 1991. Joykesh Mukherjee of CPI(M) defeated Sachin Ray of Congress in 1987, Mahadeb Manna of Congress in 1982, and Krishna Pada Roy of Congress in 1977.
