Scouting and Guiding in Southern Railway

Ever since its recognition as a State Association in 1955, Scouting and Guiding in Southern Railway has been growing steadily both quantitatively and qualitatively.
With regard to activities, we have been periodically conducting training of Adult Leaders in the form of Basic, Advanced and Wood Badge level courses. We have also been conducting specialized courses for Unit Leaders such as First Aid, Pioneering, mapping, etc. We have been occasionally organizing Basic Course for Scout/Guide Commissioners. Besides the centre in Perambur, we have a State Training Centre at Mandapam near Rameswaram and Neelakurinji Camping Centre at Ketti, Udagamandalam. Our Activities for Adult Leaders include workshops and seminars. From time to time we have organized workshops and seminars in Programme Planning, Leadership, Team Building, etc.
With regard to activities for the young persons, we organised state level competitions every year in Scouting/Guiding skills, Cultural Activities, etc. We also conduct training for Patrol Leaders, Rovers and Ranger mates, training in Proficiency Badges, training in personality development, communication skills, etc. Other activities include Eco Camps, Adventure activities, State exchange programmes etc.

Our Scouts and Guides have been rendering service during Temple festivals, at hospitals, Pulse Polio Immunization drives, Blood Donation Campaigns, AIDS Awareness Programmes, Drug Addiction Campaigns, Eye operation Camps, etc. The Service rendered by our members during rail accidents, earthquake and other natural calamities have won a lot of appreciation. Special mention need to be made about the laudable service rendered by our members in the Tsunami affected areas.
