The Bangalore School of Music (BSM) sees a world where music unites. Founded in 1987 by Mrs. Aruna Sunderlal, the BSM has enjoyed promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of music. To us, music is a cause, it is a fulfillment. The music we teach helps instill discipline, confidence and a sense of commitment. To most it is a powerful channel to express emotions. And for many of our students, music has become a profession or passion that has taken them around India & the globe as cultural ambassadors.
The BSM has a unique 360 degrees approach to music development, an integrated circle of music comprising of Music Education, Music Promotion via concerts, festivals, seminars etc., Music Outreach for the underprivileged, Cross Cultural Dialogues & Festivals and Audience Development, all orchestrated in harmony to bring the wonderful power of music into the everyday lives of our communities.
The BSM attracts an enthusiastic group of students, spanning various age groups – from little children taking their first steps in music education, to professionals who are keen to lift their music to higher levels.
Teaching classical music, mainly western, our students train for the London Boards & Progressive Music Examinations. A dedicated group of 30 teachers train over 500 young people each year. Musical training is given free to nearly 200 children annually from economically weaker sections. Over 7,500 students have received training with us, while nearly 4,000 disadvantaged children have been empowered via The Music Reach Program these 25 years.
All instruments of the Orchestra, besides Piano, Keyboard & Singing are taught. The demand for classes continues, resulting in a long waiting list which we struggle to clear due to constraints of space & insuffiency of teachers.
The Music School organizes over 35-40 concerts of local & international artistes annually, an initiative directed towards enriching the overall musical experience of students and audiences in the city.
