Jayaprakash Narayan Nagar, popularly known as J. P. Nagar, is an established residential area located in the south of the Bangalore conurbation, India named after prominent Indian leader Jayaprakash Narayan. It is located in proximity to prime residential areas such as Jayanagar, Banashankari, Bannerghatta Road and BTM Layout.J. P. Nagar was created during the period of Ramakrishna Hegde as Chief Minister of Karnataka. It's a BDA promoted layout and is characterized by independent dwelling units, small scale apartment and high street retail developments. J. P. Nagar was developed as an extension of Jayanagar and Banashankari to accommodate the growing population of Bangalore. J. P. Nagar emerged as a major residential and commercial micro-market as a result of limited availability of plots and rising land rates in the existing BDA layouts such as Jayanagar and BTM Layout. J. P. Nagar is dominated by affluent local population of Bangalore and today it is regarded as a major residential colony in the south. J. P.
