About Al Jamia Al Islamia Maseehul Uloom in Tawakkal Form K.S.Halli Bande Hosuru Hennur Bagalur Main Road, Bangalore

The Beginning:

The “Jamia Islamia Maseehul Uloom” was founded in the auspi-cious memory of the great Islamic scholar and theologian, Hazrat Maulana Maseehullah Khan, a brilliant disciple of one of the great-est Islamic revivalists of all times in the Islamic World, Hazrat Mau-lana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (May Allah be pleased with him). In its earli-est stages the Jamia began its activities in a little room adjacent to “Masjid-e-Baidwadi”, Armstrong Road, Shivaji Nagar, Bangalore.
But soon after the Jamia commenced its activities, it saw a surprising influx of the seekers of education, and students in quest for Islamic knowledge. The number of the students kept increasing by the day. These circumstances encouraged the Jamia to move forward to achieve greater goals in the future.
The Jamia has had always a great purpose and noble objectives as its goal. The Jamia has throughout all its past history and still does its best to take every work and undertaking in a most responsible and professional way. It is only with Allah’s grace and blessing, the Jamia has emerged as a grand Islamic center for ser-ving Islam. We are grateful to Almighty Allah for His numerous ble-ssings and thank Him for His countless endowments on the Jamia and its workers.

Aims and Objectives:

To convey the Message of Islam across the world.
To establish the spirit of Islam and implant a religious awakening in the hearts of every individual in the Muslim society.
To impart basic religious knowledge to the Muslim children.
To produce a highly talented group of Islamic scholars by train-ing them in the sciences of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith who then can preach Islam to others in an effective way.
To produce orators and writers who can interpret Islam and its teachings and remove misconceptions, wrong beliefs and unsubstantiated theories that have crept into the minds of certain sections of the Muslim community and refute them in authentic ways, based on the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith.
To create awareness among the Muslim youth and thus educate them to stay away from all sorts of innovation, to understand Islam, its laws, and strive hard to teach them about Islam in its pure and pristine form, the way it was taught to the Muslims by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saws) and his Companions.
To empower the Muslim youth to be ready to face the challenges thrown at them by the modern civilization and educate them to face them as and when the need arises.

The Departments of the Jamia

The Jamia includes the following departments:
Department of Education
Department of Islamic Upbringing and Reforming
Department of Preaching and Daw’ah (Propagation)
Department of Writing and Compiling Research Works
Department of Ifta (Islamic Law)
Department of Modern Technology (Computer etc.)
The Jamia has four stages in its educational courses:
Theology (Basic Islamic Education Courses).
Hifz (The Complete Course of Memorization of the Holy Qur’an).
Alimiyat (The Seven Years of Islamic Graduation).
English and Language of the state and Literature.

Theology:

The Jamia has defined three years for the completion of this course. Since, the students are usually in the initial stages of their education, and the standard of their understanding of Islam is not so sound and strong, this classification takes a keen note of all these finer points. The students in this stage are taught the following subjects:
The Qur’an with the rules of its recitation, Urdu Language, Elementary Islamic Education, Dictation, English, Mathematics and Geography etc
Hifz (The Department of Memorization of the Holy Qur’an:)
This department is devoted for the purpose of memorizing the Holy Qur’an for the students. It is one of the most elementary courses of the Jamia. The teachers of this department try their utmost to teach the students the rules of reciting the Holy Qur’an according to its definite sciences. It includes three branches under the supervision of expert teachers.
Almiyat (The Seven Basic Years of Graduation)
As far as the third stage is concerned, the Jamia gives a great importance to it, and it plays a pivotal role throughout the teaching of all courses to its students and interacts with them in various stages of developing their minds to scale greater heights. All the education and teaching services of this stage are carried out according to Dars-e-Nizami (The famous definite system of education in the Islamic schools of the subcontinent). This system is very popular, especially, in the Indian subcontinent. All the Islamic institutions relating to this systematic education have been adopting the same way for attaining the most excellent and sought-after results for their students and have emerged out successfully from their efforts.
It is admitted, undoubtedly, according to the change of times, the syllabus also has undergone an insignificant alteration and modification. But they do not affect the original curriculum set out by our elders. That is why a pure religious education depends on this syllabus even today which we value as the most precious heritage of our ancestors and which has played an exceedingly commendable role in the preservation of Islamic values and traits.
This course includes the following subjects:
The Holy Qur’an and its Sciences
Hadith (Prophetic Teachings and its Sciences)
Islamic Law and its Jurisprudence
Arabic Language and Literature and Rhetoric
Logic and Modern Science
This course usually covers eight years. However, the Jamia has provided a short course, which can be completed within a short period of six years. Here the students are taught to the level of sixth grade.
English and the language of the state and Literature:
In this course the students are taught creative writing along with the art of fluent speaking in the English language. This is a separate department in which the students are taught English and the language of the state in order to make them able to write, speak, and translate the common languages easily. Extra emphasis is given on grammatical and literary points to give the children the best possible literary skills.
The Educational system of the Jamia:
Here, we would like to make an indication to the educational system of the Jamia without going deep into its details, which is as in the following: The Jamia has shown a great degree of awakening among its students by making a few important and indispensable modifications and alterations in its current educational system. That is to lay extra emphasis on Arabic speaking and conversation including English, local languages, Mathematics and Geography, the most important subjects of the present time and age.
The Department of Islamic Upbringing and Reforming
Islam has always given a greater status to reformation and Islamic upbringing. The Qur’an has declared the purpose of the Prophets and Messengers as to reform, train and bring out the best culture and behavior in the Muslim society . Observation, experience and human psychology indicate that the best age for reformation and upbringing, more suitable and practical to the human mind is the period of childhood. Considering these points, the Jamia has given an exemplary attention towards the reformation of the students and children, and a complete set of rules has been enforced for such noble activities, which are practiced day and night. All the activities regarding these aspects are attended under the super-vision of the teachers concerned with the various departments. The students’ activities are also noted, and their progress in mar-ked seriously and they are delicately corrected as and when the need arises. These rules cover all the daily activities of the stud-ents like eating, sleeping, playing and worshipping etc.
The Jamia aims through this reformation and training process at strengthening the relation of the student with Allah, the Almighty, establishing good morals, creating a universal Islamic brotherhood, producing preachers, awakening the spirit of Islamic Jihad (Which is the opposite of terrorism), inculcation of the spirit of consolidating the religion and increasing the love of Islamic values in their hearts.
For the same purpose, the Director of the Jamia, Mufti Mohammad Shuaibullah Khan, often holds programs and gatherings in which different aspects of Islamic upbringing and reformation are highlighted. The results of these programs have been highly encouraging and fruitful. At the same time the students find a chance to spend some time with Hazrat Mufti Sahab and their spiritual contact gets stronger with him.

The Department of Preaching and Daw’ah:

According to Islamic viewpoint education, which is acquired just for the sake of gaining an education has no meaning. On the other hand, the basic purpose of education is to preach Islam and its excellent teachings. For this purpose preaching and Daw’ah related activities are also rendered. This duty of preaching is done through numerous ways like holding religious seminars, functions, conventions, with discourses in Jumuah Salah (Friday Prayers) and on other religious occasions. Besides, the preaching, a mission is also carried out in the Jamia according to the rules and regulations set out by Hazrat Maulana Mohammad Ilyas Sahab Kanhdhlavi, which has gained popularity all over the world and whose positive results and useful fruits can never be ignored in the history. According to it, on every Thursday, various groups of the students are formed and sent to the nearby villagers to educate to them about Islam who had been quite ignorant of Islamic teachings and its fundamentals.
There are other arrangements, too, for this purpose. On the time of vacations like Eid al-Adha and other exam holidays preaching groups are formed and set out. The teachers are, also, interested in it and go out for this purpose.
Besides, the Jamia has established an Academy called "Islamic Vision Academy" in order to carry out different kinds of research works where translations of different languages are carried out. By the Grace of Allah the Academy is working ardently towards attaining its deep-set goals. Here we give a brief description of the Academy:
This academy is one of the most important departments of Jamia Islamia Maseehul Uloom, which was established in 1425 Hijri Dhul-Qada, corresponding to January 2005.
The Academy aims at:
Introducing the true message of Islam to the Muslims by establishing centers of teaching Qur’an and Hadith under expert Islamic scholars, and to enable them to benefit from the original and basic sources of Islam.Informing all the Muslims, in general, and the modern educated graduates and scholars, in particular, about our former, pious ancestors, great Islamic leaders, outstanding Muslim theologians, learned personalities and spiritual reformers, bringing them closer to their teachings and the noble examples, which they have set in their lives for others to follow.

Department of Writing and Compiling Research Works:

The Jamia is busy actively in different fields of compilation and research works. In this regard the Director of the Jamia is seriously engaged in improving the same cause. As a result many extraordinarily important works carried out by him have come into existence. We can know the extent of his efforts form the fact that until now his compiled works include thirty-two well researched books, which are full of Islamic knowledge.
Besides, he has authored a wider range of Islamic discourses and articles, which number more than three hundred. It is noteworthy that throughout these books and articles many different kinds of topics were dealt which belong to intellectual, reformative and Daw’ah related works.
Beside Hazrat Mufti Sahab, there are a number of talented teachers who have an excellent taste for compilation and writing and possess creative bent of minds. That is why they, also, have created a number of works in the form of booklets and pamphlets. They are expected to perform brilliant works in the future considering their current activities, which is a glad tiding for the Jamia and good news to present a better understanding of the religion in the modern age.
