About Vijaynagar School in Patrakar Colony, Naranpura, Ahmedabad

In December 1971 Gujarat Housing Board alloted about 600 MIG flats to the residents for housing purpose.Many of the allottees came to reside in February 1972.Since most of the allottees were young they found it difficult to provide education nearby to their children and wards.
This difficulty was realized and we were prompted to start a school .Vijaynagar education society was established in June 1972 and registered under societies act under register No G4/376/Ahd and under trust act under No F/460 in 1972 itself.
Gujarat Housing board agreed to construct a school building for a primary school in the plot reserved for school at entrance of Vijaynagar and Patrakar colony.
Vijaynagar education society was given a flat at rent of Rs. 400/- per month in block J-8 i.e Patrakar colony.The primary school was inaugurated in 1972 with 32 students only.Vijaynagar education society paid salary as per rules to it's teachers even when there were losses.
Gujarat housing board constructed the building with eight rooms at the cost of Rs 2,12,000/- of which education society paid Rs 53,000/- i.e 25% in cash by borrowing from private sources in 1975.Seven member's of Vijaynagar education society took personal loan from peoples cooperative bank and repaid the private loans.Such was the commitment of the members then.
The school developed rapidly, the secondary section was also started in 1978 and developed in order to accomodate increasing number of students.One more floor with nine class rooms was constructed with loan extended by Kalupur commercial cooperative bank on liberal terms. Four executive member stood as guarantor for the loan.Higher secondary science & commerce stream results of Board exams were hovering about 100%.Some of our students made a mark by obtaining ranks in Gujarat secondary and Higher secondary result.With increasing number of students in K.G,Primary,Secondary & Higher secondary section,a need was felt to have more space.The education society constructed a new building in open space with consent of Gujarat Housing board and provided uptodate Laboratary, Library,Computer lab and Teachers common room.
The guiding principles of admission is the nearest to be admitted first so that the student is not required to undergo the owes of transport and the cost of transport.
Our firm belief is that the school is mother Saraswati for the childeren residing round about the school.We have continued the same policy even today except the science higher secondary admission which are governed by circular of Goverment of Gujarat.
There are several other cultural activities developed jointly with other institution by Vijaynagar education society such as Classical Dance,Classical Music etc..
Apart from cultural activities, for allround developement of the students karate, Riffle shootting,chess and such other activities for strong mind,strong body and good health are also developed under the joint auspices of various other organizations.
Having felt the increasing desire of parents for English medium,Vijaynagar Education Society had started K.G Section from 2007 and English medium primary school from 2009.
In the area of science teaching various achievements are recorded one of our primary school project is selected for all India science fair which will be held in end of 2010.
There are about 150 life members enrolled. The excutive committee of 20 members with sizeable reservation for ladies members manages affairs of Vijaynagar education society.
Vijaynagar education society has also developed Mahila Mandal for developement and education of ladies residing nearby. The programmes of mahila mandal are regularly arranged on an each Saturday in the school premises.
The member of executive committee are highly qualified persons, from various walks of life,such as professors ,chartered accountant,teachers of secondary and higher secondary schools, bussinessman,gazzetted officers, having no axe to grind.
The sound foundation of Vijaynagar society is a result of efforts of it's late president shri N.K.Trivedi, professor Kanubhai Shah,professor Mahendra R. Shah,Late advocate shri Haribhai Mehta,shri Virendrabhai Shah,Late professor Bhailalbhai Patel,shri Gopalbhai Shah,proffessor K.M.Patel,Shri Pravinbhai Sheth and many others who stood by all the difficulties at devlopment stage.
Shri N.K.Trivedi ex.principal of C.U.Shah commerce college also helped Vijaynagar education society in processing private loan of RS.45000/- initially for acquiring the school building.
Vijaynagar education society is stranded in it's devlopedment due to shortage of space. Many of our students have achieved prestige and fame in the field of medicine,pharmacy,teaching profession,modern profession like management,chartered accountants,software engineers, mechanical and other proffession. Vijaynagar Education society has functioned for almost 4 decades. The founder members and others are ageing.
