About Yavatmalcha Durgotsav यवतमाळचा दुर्गोत्सव in Datt Chowk, Yavatmal

Durga Festival of Yavatmal has a tradition of150years.Yavatmal stands First in Maharashtra and Second in the rank of d celebration of this festival,all over India. People have a Great Faith in Durgafestival,Goddesses of Strength.
The beginning of DurgaFestival has a history of long back. Formarly Yavatmal was known as 'Yevat'. It was surrounded with dense forest. There was a temple of ShitalaMata(one of d sisters of MaaDurga)at the entrance of the village. Whenever any disaster would befall,people would pray to Goddesses ShitalaMata. In1890,there was an epidemic of plague. People prayed to Goddesses ShitalaMata to get rid of this epidemic. It is said that with the worship of ShitalaMata d effect of plague decresed. From then, there has been a tradition of celebrating Navaratra Utsav in the village. In1906 this village was renamed as Yavatmal.
Currently, there are more than 2000+ DurgaUtsav Mandals in whole Yavatmal city.
Huge pedals,live statues of MaaDurga & eye catching lighting attract the attention of visitors. Most of the Mandals have celebrated the Silver Jubilee. Thus this festival became a Milestone in the history of Yavatmal.
Once in life, One should definitely visit Yavatmal,during Navaratra Utsav to see it's gaiety and grandeur :)
