Its a chronic renal failure and many patients die because of inappropriate facilities or inadequate finance. Many patients are not only young but the sole bread winners of the family.

Shree Jain Medical Relief Society- Chennai was founded in the year 1950 and is dedicated to provide medical facilities to the poor and needy. The society is serving with Maternity hospital, Eye hospital, Physiotherapy center, Poly Clinics, Dental clinics and Clinical laboratories in various part of the society.

The Society has established 3 dialysis centers in the city at Mylapore, Perambur & Sowcarpet for the needs of kidney failure patients.

Let me explain a bit of economics of the center (Sowcarpet center) here:

No. of beds available for dialysis: 5 beds
No. of Dialysis can be done per day: 10 dialysis
No. of dialysis done per month: 250 dialysis
Cost per dialysis: Rs. 1300/-
Patients charged per dialysis: Rs. 500/- (Free of cost for needy people)
(Cost outside per dialysis ranges from Rs. 1500/- to Rs. 4000/-)

Total cost per month: Rs. 3,25,000/- (250 * 1300)
Total shortage of fund per month: Rs. 2,00,000/- (250 * 800)
Yearly shortage of fund: Rs. 25,00,000/- (25 Lacs)

The shortage is funded by donations from individual philanthropist, organisations, companies and various associations who donates generously for this cause.
