About Anup N Lalloo - The Singing Couple in Kunnumbhagam, Kanjirappally, Kottayam

ANUP THOMAS [Son of Late Prof.Thomas Antony -- Dept. English, St.Dominic's College, Kanjirappally & Mrs.Daisy Thomas, Attukadavil (H) Kunnumbhagam, Kanjirappally] and LALLOO ALPHONSE [Daughter of Late Alphonse James & Mrs.Valsa Alphonse, Varickanickal (H) Chemmalamattam, Erattupetta] – Kottayam district, Kerala – first met in a church during a wedding choir. They were the two lead singers of that group. They sang together for one or more wedding. And, then there was a long gap until music united them in marriage on 17 August 2015. When their parents started looking for partners for them, they both insisted he/she should have some musical talent.

Their wedding made them famous. They were brought under the limelight for singing the old malayalam melodious song "Poomkaattinodum kilikalodum" from the movie "Poomukhapadiyil Ninneyum Kathu" on their wedding reception held at St.Dominic's Cathedral Parish hall in Kanjirappally in front of the film’s director Bhadran.
The video went viral on social media making them 'The Singing Couple', probably because most young couples in Kerala still don’t have the option of putting their personal touches on their weddings and these two did just that.

"Director Bhadran sir was there for the reception with his wife. He liked our singing so much that he offered a chance in his next project," say the elated couple who didnt expect the video to go viral. "As we are both singers, we wished to sing a song for the guests. The song was fixed two days prior to marriage and there was no time for rehersal. The only rehersal we did was while going to the venue sitting inside the car," smiles Anup. "But, we had no stage fear. We knew the song well. We knew the idea was different, but never thought it would become so popular," says Anup who also sang for their wedding highlights video. The song was "Mazhaye Thoomazhaye" from the movie "Pattam Pole". The initial plan was to do a duet with Lalloo. But, then this song was more apt for the situation. So, I sang it" says Anup.

Anup Thomas is running an IT company The Inventiv Hub in Pala (The Inventiv Hub : http://inventivhub.com/) with Leo Alphonse (Lalloo's brother) and Lalloo Alphonse is an English lecturer at Mar Augusthinose College, Ramapuram.

For both Anup and Lalloo, music has been their passion since childhood. Active in their respective church choir groups, their families too have a musical background. "Lalloo's father was a famous guitarist & Electronics Engineer and he taught my father the lessons of guitar playing. So, our families knew each other." says Anup.

For Lalloo, music brought the twist in her life. Although she used to sing before marriage, life changed a lot after marriage. "I was happy we got such a huge acceptance among people. It was unexpected. I feel it was God's grace. People's support encourages us to sing more. All credit for this goes to Anup, who is very supportive and wants me to sing more. He helps me choose songs," says Lalloo who did an Onam song - "Onam da" - later. That was also well received. "It was our friend who did the song. Elements of that song were used as background music in television channels during Onam season," she says with a smile. She has also done a few covers of devotional songs.

"Aadi vaa kaatte " and "Thenum vayambum" were two other social media hits from Lalloo. She crooned them in her college. "Aadi vaa kaatte" was sung for the Fresher's Day. "Usually, students get to sing during such occasions. Our college management is very supportive and they gave me a chance to sing," says Lalloo whose students love her melodious voice. "Their support is immense. They have always been there for me," she adds. Lalloo wants to continue both her profession and passion.

The couple started getting stages after the popular wedding song. Recently, they have been to Kuwait to perform for the inauguration of Kottayam district association there. They do it like a music show. "We try to stick to the original composition and sing mostly melodies. We like listening to fast numbers. but when it comes to singing, we are more comfortable with the melody," says Lalloo. Her brother Leo Alphonse and his friends give immense support to the singing couples.

They believe they would be able to take this forward. "As of now, we want to take both profession and passion together. We have not yet decided our future plans," says Lalloo.
